Scheduled and off-site backups
Back up daily or weekly with a retention rule, and copy each backup to an FTP or FTPS server or to a local or mounted folder. Older scheduled copies are deleted automatically.
Rollback if a restore fails
Before an import overwrites the database, Migrator snapshots it. If the database import or the URL rewrite fails, the database is put back automatically. If a later step fails, such as extracting files, the site is left partly restored and the message gives the path of the dump to restore by hand. The snapshot is kept until the whole restore is through.
Pull and push between servers
Copy a live site to another server over HTTP with wp migrator pull, with no archive to download or upload. An interrupted pull carries on where it stopped, and the next run fetches only what changed. Send changed files back with wp migrator push. WP-CLI only, and off until you switch it on.
What PRO adds, and why it matters
Incremental backups
Scheduled backups store only the files that changed, and every archive still carries the full database.
Recovery points
A list of known-good backups with one-click rollback. A point is captured automatically after every successful backup or on demand, and remembers the site URL and database prefix.
Email notifications
Get an email when a scheduled backup completes or fails, so a silent failure never slips by.
Activity log
A newest-first record of backups, restores, off-site copies and recovery points.
Cloud destinations
S3-compatible storage with presets (S3, R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces), SFTP and WebDAV (Nextcloud, ownCloud), on top of the FTP/FTPS and folder copies in the free plugin.
Server-to-server transfer from wp-admin
Pull a site from one server to another from the Site Transfer screen in wp-admin, with a key generated on the old site and no manual download. The free Migrator moves a site between servers from WP-CLI; PRO adds a button in the admin for it.
Encrypted backups
Password-protected backups; the archive is decrypted on the fly when you restore.
Multisite, network to network
Back up and migrate a whole multisite network, with correct URL rewriting. The admin moves a network onto a network; pulling a single subsite out is a WP-CLI job.
Deploy to a new server
A standalone installer downloads WordPress core, extracts the files, imports the database, rewrites URLs and writes wp-config.php. It can also fetch the backup itself from a link, including a presigned S3, R2 or Dropbox URL.
Table sync
Pick database tables from a backup and import only those into the live site. Push content from staging without rolling back the orders, customers and comments that arrived in the meantime. Preview what would change first, and the chosen tables are dumped before anything is written.
Reset a site to a clean install
Takes a staging site back to fresh WordPress without reinstalling: a safety backup, the tables dropped, a clean install, and the address, title and administrator password put back. Single sites only, not networks.
White label
An agency replaces the menu name with its own, points the upgrade link elsewhere and hides the purchase prompt, so the client sees the tool under the agency's brand.

Frequently asked questions
Is Migrator free?
Yes. Migrator is free and open source under GPLv2. The free edition backs up and migrates your whole site with no artificial size limit, on a schedule if you like, with a copy to FTP or a folder. It also copies a live site to another server over WP-CLI. PRO adds incremental backups, cloud storage, multisite, server-to-server transfer from wp-admin and encryption.
Can I copy a live site to another server without downloading a backup?
Yes, if the new server has WP-CLI. Install Migrator on both sites. On the old one, switch on Migrator > Pull and Push. On the new one, run wp migrator pull with the old site's address. The first run prints a key: paste it on the old site's Pull and Push screen and run the command again. A server without the OpenSSL extension cannot check keys, so there you set a connection token and add --secret=<token>. The database and wp-content travel over HTTP in small pieces, an interrupted pull carries on where it stopped, and the next run fetches only what changed. The table prefixes must match. Without WP-CLI, the usual route still works: back up to a file and restore it on the new server.
Do I need an account or external service?
No. Migrator is self-hosted. The backup runs on your own server and produces a single file you control, with no third-party account. It leaves the server only if you add a destination yourself: an FTP server or a folder.
Can I clone or move a site to a new host?
Yes. The same archive restores a site in place after a problem, or migrates and clones it to a new host or domain with serialization-safe URL rewriting.
What happens if a restore fails halfway?
Migrator checks the archive before the import, so an unfinished backup is refused before anything changes. It then snapshots the database and puts it back automatically if the database import or the URL rewrite fails. If a later step fails, such as extracting files, the site is left partly restored and the message says where the previous database dump is, so you can restore it by hand.
Does Migrator work for WooCommerce?
Yes. A WooCommerce store is a WordPress site with extra tables and serialized settings, so the same complete backup and serialization-safe migration applies. Order, product and settings data move with the rest of the database.
How does Migrator compare to Duplicator, All-in-One WP Migration, WPvivid and UpdraftPlus?
They all back up and migrate WordPress, and the differences sit in the free tier. Migrator free has no size limit and takes a database snapshot before every import that is restored automatically if the database import fails. All-in-One WP Migration is bounded by your host's PHP limits and sells a $69/yr extension to lift them. Duplicator publishes a 4 GB ceiling for its free edition.
